Best farmer’s market stand - Tropical Fruit Stand

We asked and you decided. 37 percent of the Twitter followers and an overwhelming majority of the Instagram followers who answered our polls agree that Tropical Fruit Stand is the best vendor at UM’s weekly farmer’s market. Selling a variety of fresh fruit, this booth is always bursting with flavor, and there’s no better way to beat the Miami heat than with a pint of organic mango. For students with a more adventurous palate, the stand also offers exotic treats such as jackfruit, golden berries and papaya. No matter what you decide to try, the fruit from this stand is sure to leave you feeling healthy and refreshed. Plus, we could all use a dose of vitamin C, Mother Nature’s best immune booster.

Best photo op - Lake Osceola / Fate Bridge

UM’s campus is filled with Instagram-worthy scenery, but Lake Osceola is one of the most picture-perfect views in all of Coral Gables. With fountains, palm trees and an incredible view of the student center, the lake is always the perfect place to stop and snap a photo. Stand on Fate Bridge to watch the sunset and capture your next profile picture as the sky becomes a watercolor canvas. Or, pose on the steps in front of the SSC and wait for a real-life ibis to wander into frame. Your options are endless, with scenery that matches any moment and possibilities that are only limited by your imagination. These are the photos that will decorate your dorm for years to come. These are the memories that will last a lifetime.

Best place for a mental breakdown - Richter Library Stacks

Sometimes, you just need to cry. And unfortunately for us college students, sometimes “sometimes” comes around pretty frequently. So where do you go when that time comes? Is it The Rat, where you can drown your emotions in beer and greasy food? Is it the Stanford practice rooms, where you can cry while listening to the surrounding sound of people practicing their musical crafts? Is it your own dorm room? Well, The Miami Hurricane staff has decided that the Richter Library Stacks is the most optimal place for a mental breakdown. The isolated area gives you all the privacy you need to really let it all out. It’s no coincidence that hours are extended during finals season, because let’s face it, most of us need a good cry to help us make it to the end of the semester.

Hours: Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m.-2 a.m., Friday 7:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-10 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m.-10 a.m.

Best Place to Dump Your Significant Other - Frat Row

All things change, and feelings are no different. An overwhelming number of our polled Instagram and Twitter followers believe that when it comes time to kick your current fling to the curb, Frat Row is the place to go. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s secluded enough to ensure privacy but public enough that your significant other won’t want to cause a scene. Or, maybe it’s that once it’s over, you can head over to one of UM’s many frat houses for a guaranteed good time. Whatever the reason, consider this location when deciding how to make your current relationship a thing of the past. Oh, and good luck— you’re going to need it.

Best place to unwind and relax - UC Pool

What’s the most “Miami” part of campus? Definitely the UC Pool, aka the perfect place to do absolutely nothing except work on your tan. There’s no need to worry about finals while you’re basking on the pool deck— this is one of the rare parts of campus that’s all about relaxation. And when the Miami sun gets too hot, you can take a dip in the refreshing pool, cooling down as the water washes away your worries. We all deserve a break, so next time you have a few spare hours, take full advantage of your free time and enjoy UM’s most relaxing amenity. Just don’t forget your sunscreen.

Hours: Monday-Thursday 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 12 p.m.-5 p.m.

Best healthy food - Pura Vida

With its newest location only a short walk from Mahoney-Pearson, it is no surprise that UM students have fallen in love with Pura Vida. In love might even be an understatement, with 49 percent of our Twitter voters and 52 percent of Instagram voters calling it the best healthy food option, beating out Rice Mediterranean Kitchen and Diced. The menu can get a bit pricey, with meals ranging from $10.95 to $16.95, but with just one bite, you can tell you’re paying for fresh ingredients and ample nutrients, two things missing from most of our diets. Whether you’re in the mood for a salad, wrap, smoothie, or juice, Pura Vida has you covered. And with the Coral Gables’ location offering a value meal using Cane Card swipes, there really is something for every pallet and budget.
